Since June 2019, Watermelon has been utilising the PureSpectrum platform to advance the capabilities of their research. Based in London, this agency continues their focus to bring the best experience to their clients as insights and data experts. The organisation has pioneered the client success manager position, offers a full end-to-end services approach and works to enhance their client’s journey and the experience of their client’s customers. Their services allow clients to collect customer data at scale to inform business decisions.

“At Watermelon, we position ourselves very differently. We want to add value and PureSpectrum enables us to look good,” Mark Squires, Watermelon Founder and CEO, said.

Adaptive Tools to Navigate Unprecedented Challenges

Squires has over 15 years experience in the market research industry and has utilised his operational background to found Watermelon and run it today as CEO. When COVID-19 began affecting companies in March of 2020, Squires knew Watermelon had to adapt and prepare for a potential downturn of the economy. New circumstances required a new strategy: how to increase efficiency and keep outputs the same during a global pandemic.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we assessed the market and recognized that there would be a downturn,” Squires said. “We didn’t have that luxury to try and look at efficiencies we need to create. We needed to find a new strategy that doesn’t impact our ability to deliver to clients as much and puts the company in a stronger position.”

Using PureSpectrum’s automated sampling, Watermelon was able to advance their business with both the quality data and services their clients were expecting. It allowed them the operational leverage to make dynamic changes in field, manage quotas independently and move forward with projects regardless of schedules.

Specifically, time flexibility has become essential to the Watermelon team. Allowing them to launch projects, receive automated sample via the PureSpectrum Marketplace and edit quotas has given them the autonomy to better serve their clients’ unique needs.

“It’s an integrated platform that gives us control. We can sample at our own convenience, even if that’s midnight on a Friday, and helps us with weekend coverage. It helps us look good to our clients,” Squires said.

Integrating People, Not Just Systems

Squires deeply values a personable team dynamic not just within Watermelon, but with all of the company’s business partners. He had known George Head, now PureSpectrum’s UK Sales Director, throughout his career. Squires knew that Head would be part of a business with top work ethics and products that would mesh well with Watermelon’s vision.

PureSpectrum has got it right – great tech and great interpersonal people. A big thing for me is people that want to have a relationship. The reality is that PureSpectrum has got a good blend which gives us control and efficiency,” Squires said.
